Celebrate agriculture this summer!

Do you ever wonder who created those crazy food and agriculture holidays? Not that we are complaining; we are always up to raise a cone of ice cream in honor of July. This month we celebrate ice cream, blueberries, the infamous baked bean, hot dogs, and picnics in general.

We hope agriculture is an integral part of your summer, from Fourth of July picnics to breezy cotton summer dresses. There is a lot of work done behind the scenes to make sure we can eat, clothe, and build while protecting our planet for future generations. Now, that's a reason to celebrate.

Food is all about nourishment. Outside the Ellington Agriculture Center in Middle Tennessee, a farm is doing its best to both nourish the hungry and sustain those with unique employment needs. Joey Lankford began his agriculture ministry in South Africa following the call in Matthew 25:35 to feed the hungry. After five years, Lankford returned to Middle Tennessee to serve his neighbors here. Cul2vate serves the mission of engaging poverty by delivering nutrition to the hungry and providing full-time employment for farmers who need business skills training. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture's Samantha Jean spoke with Lankford to discover just how Cul2vate is engaged in breaking the generational cycle of poverty through agriculture. Listen now.
