Agriculture making headlines

5 Citrus Recipes headline

Citrus fruits are in season in the winter. We’ve all heard the old-fashioned stories about children receiving a fresh orange in their Christmas stockings. Imagine being up in the snowy mountains, or out on the prairie, and having a piece of the tropics in your hand. The smell alone would conjure thoughts of far-off places and fill the senses with wonder. Enjoy five citrus recipes to brighten up winter.

Protecting Health headline

David White, associate dean for University of Tennessee AgResearch and a professor of food science within the UT Institute of Agriculture, has been appointed as one of four new voting members to the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB). The emergence and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria represents a serious threat to public health and the economy. Originally established in September 2014 by executive order, PACCARB’s mission is to provide advice, information, and recommendations to the US Secretary of Health and Human Services related to federal programs and policies intended to prevent and control illness and death related to antibiotic-resistant infections.

Sharing the Cost headline

Tennessee farmers looking to expand their markets and increase food safety by becoming Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certified now have the opportunity to receive financial assistance from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA).
